Our Guides

Experienced, professional, enthusiastic and all-round good guys...

Being a mountain bike guide is not just about being a great rider. At Heli Bike NZ we put being able to guide, manage risk, communicate at a high level, know about 400km of trails, assess rider expectations and deliver that expectation, have wilderness first responder emergency care training, fix bikes on the trail, load helicopters and drive customers FIRST And then they have to be solid, competent riders. We do not rant about being bike racers - we are guides!

  • Greg McIntyre - Heli Bike NZ Guide

Greg is well traveled and well aware of the hassles and frustrations of not getting to the heart of an area or mountain bike trail area. His twenty years mountain biking in Queenstown, Southern Lakes of New Zealand qualifies Greg to deliver the most amazing trails on offer in this special part of the planet. These trails are the ones that you will not find on your own. Greg is probably New Zealands most experienced MTB guide having guided over 2000 trips in his nearly 15yrs of guiding.

Greg is a founding member of the Queenstown Mountain Bike Club and the Cycle Tour Operators New Zealand (CTONZ) and now actively involved in the training and assesses mountain bike guides in New Zealand

  • Leigh Helkett - Heli Bike NZ Guide

Leigh is a Kiwi who calls Queenstown home. She loves living among the mountains and making the most of the all the adventures they offer. Leaving behind the professional life, she has exchanged her stethoscope for her bike helmet and works during the New Zealand summers as a guide for Heli Bike NZ and the winters guiding international cycle tours. She is excited to be part of the Heli Bike NZ team and brings with her many years of mountain biking, guiding experience and of course, first aid skills…but hopefully we won’t need those.

  • Eric Wilhite - Heli Bike NZ Guide

Eric, a native Californian, was transplanted to NZ shores over a decade ago while chasing winters around the globe. Fortunately for him, he realised the error of his ways and now calls NZ home year round. He used to spend his winters fitting ski boots in Queenstown and summers swinging hammers and repairing bicycles, all the while dreaming away of skiing and mountain biking…. In search of his own hedonistic way of life and desperate to shun the world of proper work and responsibility, he has spent the last few years pursuing qualifications in the adventure tourism industry so that he can have fun every day of his life, ski instructing in winter and guiding for Heli Bike NZ in summer.

He looks forward to sharing the fun on the trails this season with interesting folks and adventurous souls like you.

  • Marti Smith - Heli Bike NZ Guide

Marti has quite a few claims to fame but there is not enough room to write about them here! But some of them are that Marti was one of the pioneers of mountain biking in Queenstown, working in a bike shop when most people thought fat tires were a fad and then being one of the first mountain bike guides in New Zealand guiding on the Skippers pack track, now an easy ride to do yourself.

Marti is a third generation Queenstown local.
